It's been a while, I know, but the way life has been going here in my family blogging has not been on the top of my priority list. I've given it thought quite a few times but haven't had the umption or drive to write about all of it. These are the thoughts that are at the forefront of my mind:
We feel uprooted, winded, and just plain and simple...in a rut.
We feel displaced, unnerved, and unsettled.
And all of this just when we thought we were feeling rooted and refreshed and starting a new beginning set in a place of safety and freedom and opportunity.
"The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."
And that is how it's going.
I know most of you are in the dark about what exactly I'm talking about... and some things need to be left unsaid at this point...because it's not the details that matter. What matters is how we're responding to the "movement"... if that's what it is. The shaking and the uneven ground under our feet...or so it seems. That reminds me of a scripture I highlighted in my Bible not too long ago. It's describing the voice of the Lord. It says,
"The voice of the Lord shakes the desert." Psalm 29:8
Not only does the Lord's voice come in gentle whispers, but it's profound and evident. Read the rest of Psalm 29...there's more to His Almighty voice.
In the physical sense here in California the shaking and movement of the earth's floor is normal and expected, just like tornadoes are expected in the midwest, like Kansas. So it's a little ironic geographically where we are experiencing the same in the emotional, mental and spiritual. But God has a sense of humor at times too, wouldn't you agree? And often times, I suppose as Christians being transformed, we ought to expect this "shaking"... as normal...shouldn't we?
Not sure where I'm going with this; however, I am sure of one thing: God is not through with us yet, nor has He left us or forsaken us. He's shakin' something out of us in order for His purpose to be accomplished...ouch, it hurts, but it's a Romans 8:28 kind of purposeful thing...ya know?
Thoughtfully with My Kup...

The Educational Diversion for the Davis girls...
looks like this...
One detail that you might notice is that they are wearing the same colors. This is called "uniformity", in which they must abide by 180...or is it 170?...days of this year, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.
Have you guessed, yet, where I'm going with this?
It's called "The Over-Glorified System" ofindoctrination public school (my opinion of course), and they are now enlisted and have begun a new year. As you well have caught on, I have very mixed emotions about this subject. My husband and I do not see eye to eye one hundred percent, but at the same time we have given it and the girls to the Lord and all of this is 100% in His Hands...that we can see eye to eye on.
Steve and I had the thrilling opportunity of visiting...
And this is what we came home with...
Yesterday (1st day of school) the girls came home with lists of items they are required to bring to school...and the only object you don't see is the skinny 3 hole punch that fits inside a binder. Target (gasp..I let it out!) didn't have them...nor did WalMart. I can only hope the girls don't receive a deduction of points for not having it!
Ok, I'm being abit..ok lot cynical in this post...and I have a lot to work on, concerning my heart, in this area of interest ( pray for me). I understand that my girls need a mom that is positive when they come home from this military-type environment, and so despite the circumstances, knowing full-well that my God has captured the cries of my heart, I will make a proclamation of obedience (to God), joyfulness of heart, and a gentle understanding to the loved ones that I reside with.
To my husband's credit, I believe that I would have continued to home-school my girls if we were residing in an area that only one income could sustain. On the contrary, yesterday I had my first interview in the work-force, which is interpreted as: mom is going to be working full-time...as the Lord leads.
And that is one of the reasons for "the system".
The second reason is really dulled by the first, so there really is no reason to mention it. Yeah, I know, bummer...but whatev! I've already said too much, probably.
Ok...so two more pics and then I'm done...
Oh! and I forgot to mention that I've saved a buck by sewing Khaki and/or Navy Blue shorts and skirts for the girls...until I can come up with an income.
Willingly they (the girls) are wearing them.
Considerately they (the girls again) say they like them...whew! Mom is...still cool. Unheard of with teenagers these days.
And lastly...
By the way, all three of them are going to the same school...it's a specialized charter school that is unique to Math and Science. Currently they include grades 6th thru 10th (Taylyr will be in the 1st graduating class, and always the upper-classman...woohoo for her ;o)

In A Quandary of Sorts...But God Is Bigger!
My heart is a bit heavy right now as I think about finding a job. It's burdened not only because I haven't had to "go out" and find one for quite a few years and the uncertainty of how I'm going to go about doing so weighs on my mind, but also, the fact that a job will most likely interfere with our schooling efforts...of any kind (ie..Steve is currently researching the options of Christian schools in the area...and I wasn't going to look for a job because of the tuition of these options...I was looking to help with everything else! Is there an option of raising my family for pay?!). If I home-school (and this is my preference) then I'd need to find evening work or in-home childcare of one child...which I am inclined in doing because this is familiar to me (the latter that is). If the girls attend an institution other than home then there is the transportation to and from and being home when they are. There is no WAY I'm leaving them home alone in an area that I'm unfamiliar with ... teenage girls + a whole lot of teenage+ boys in the neighborhood = too much unfriendly and unwanted opportunity. Know what I mean? I'm not saying that I'm fearful...in fact, I refuse to live in fear. Our present home has bars on all the windows that will be taken down eventually because I don't desire to live in fear. I serve a big God that is able to protect my family and has protected us all these years. I trust in Him alone. What I am saying is this limits the hours that I can work because I need to be doing what I am called to be at this season of my life..and that is...a wife and a mother....which is work, right?
Either way we (he) decides, an extra income needs to be rolling in ...and quickly. (Don't get me wrong, I am extremely proud of my husband and the hard work he puts into his job, but the fact of the matter is where we live geographically super exceeds our single income.)
This morning I applied to an online ad company that posts family oriented ads on blogs...and the idea of it is that it pays the blogger per page view. Meaning, every time you, the reader, clicks on a post on my blog it counts towards an income for me. So, if they deem my blog worthy to post their ads and you see ads on my blog then you will know that I am not only blogging for fun, but for a little extra income. Please don't be offended by this, it would be something that I can thoroughly enjoy...writing! But your help is essential in my making a few extra bucks...reading! I know this is very premature as the possible acceptance may take up to 45 days. I'm just warning you of my motives upfront.
Anyhow,
"'I know the plans I have for you',says DECLARES the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11
God just reminded me of this verse and so I had to share it. Therefore, I will rest in Him and not worry. My hope is in Him. I know that as I seek Him first the above topic that my heaviness is entertaining will be taken care of...on all accounts.

Silence...
The silence is deafening...except for the ticking of the clock. I never hear that noise...not until tonight.
After delivering my family to the airport this afternoon and then turning around and driving three more hours back, I entered a home void of any other human being. Strange. Instead, I was greeted by a spastic, long-haired Dachshund who ran circles around me knowing she was about to get a little human contact and maybe a treat. What a dependable companion!
Just me and my dog. This "alone-time" will be interesting...so I better make the most of it.
Listening. Packing. More listening. Helping a friend. Waiting on Him. Dinner with a friend. More packing and more listening. This is my goal for the week before I drive another 3 hours on Friday to meet Steve at the airport...and bring him home!
Do you ever get unwanted imaginings, especially at night when you're lying in bed, about loved ones when they are absent? I do, but this time I'm determined to send them off to sea...the imaginings, not the loved ones (an act of taking captive the mind and committing it to the mind of Christ). Those paralyzing thoughts that cause "what if's" about my husband and daughters as they are away will not be allowed in my mind, in the Name of Jesus!
This will be the longest time away from the girls ever...3+ weeks! I will miss them; but I know that they are in good, godly and safe company and supervision...my family. I appreciate you deeply! (you know who you are) And I am counting down the days when I will be able to see you as well. I love you!

Peace has passed...
... all understanding in the hearts of the Davis'... finally!
California is our final answer. The decision has been made and dates have been penciled in. Tentatively we, Steve and I, and the moving truck head out on June 24th...just three weeks from today. Packing has continued, seeing friends for the last time have begun, and the anticipation of finding out which house in which city is driving me crazy! (taking a deep breath)
This move is so strange and different from all the other ones. For example:
*It has never taken several turns of decision to finally come to the right one, and we always know where we are going. This time we only know which section of the state and that we still have a job! Praise God!
*Next, our car/s have always been in great working condition for a move; however, this timewe Steve is having to make calls left and right trying to "settle" the issues our Honda Pilot is having and has had for the past several months. What kind of "settlement" will be determined by next Wednesday. Prayers for favor in the eyes of God and man are appreciated :o)
*Lastly, we still do not know where the money is going to come from to make this move happen as well.
So are we being tested like never before? I think so!
And I hope that by the end of all this our Lord will want to say, "Well done good and faithful servants!" This is my heart's desire.
On Monday my girls will start their summer vacation in an airport. Their daddy will escort them from one plane to the next as their flight lands in southern California. How exciting for them! On the other hand, I will be driving back alone to a house occupied by a dog, a cat, 5 one week old kittens and a mess of material possessions that have to be packed. How exciting for me. Actually, I am thrilled that my girls will not have to go through the drudgery of another move. Instead, they will be reconnecting with family and old friends and having a blast! It will be different not having them with us for almost a month. That's never happened.
So our journey moves on. We will miss our dear friends in New Mexico as we have missed our friends in Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, and California...have I missed any? There is no god like our God and He is the tie that binds us all together. Remember we are only a phone call, a text message, an email, or a chat away....consider even a vacation our way. Y'all are always welcome in our home ... where ever that may be.
In all this, however, my plea to the Lord is, "May my rest be at the end of this next road...for a very long while."

Yada Yada Yada...
Birthday Holiday = No School. Check.
Birthday lunch at Wild Cats Den. Check.
Birthday cake decorated. Check.
Birthday presents opened. Check.
Birthday girl happy. Check.
Intestinal flu still in motion. Yuck.
Broken tooth...down to the gum line. Ugh.
Wet blue ink found in washing machine.Crap. Ach! (thank goodness it was mixed with dark, colored clothing!)
This has been a mixed day...one of celebration mixed with all that could possibly mess that up. However, I refuse to let that happen. My 12 year old baby girl, "Boo", will not have her excitement dispelled because mom is being "slammed", if I can help it.
This day is still not over, but my glass will be half full...I'm determined ;)

You Never Know...
Early this afternoon I was lamenting* sharing with my sister that I had no idea when my family will be able to move back (to California) and I had no idea how we were going to be able to afford to send our girls off on a plane to spend some time this summer with their grandparents, aunts, and cousins, when she popped out with..
"You never know what's coming around the corner."
God was already on top of it...before these thoughts existed He put a generous thought on someone's heart. Minutes after this sisterly conversation my husband called me to share some good news.
"Money is being mailed to us from "someone" (I'll leave them anonymous) to use for airline tickets to send the girls off on their summer vacation that we have desired!"
Wow!! I never saw it coming, as it was "coming around the corner". Head-on collision with a gracious, loving God Who sees our every need. I love those divine collisions, don't you? This motivates me to keep moving forward in faith and expect another need to collide with the Provider. Again, I'll be ready to testify of His Greatness!!!
*I know with many of my readers this word is a bit confusing because I have displayed how excited I am in staying in the New Mexico area; and a part of me is excited as many of you have been a family for us. However, there is a huge part of me that desires to be a part of my "blood" family again and be "nested" there for a very long time. My heart is torn, and tugged, and tossed, and tumbled and when I have conversations with my family of moving back my heart skips a beat; and when I'm with my New Mexico family I'm thrilled! Do you see my dilemma of emotions? Understand that I feel like I'm still standing in the middle of "The River" waiting, for what? (and may I remind you that the "riverbed" is dry...I'm not struggling in this position.) For peace about this move? For direction? (In which I feel like we've received a lot of those lately...now to discern what is from "whom".) For my heart to be put back together in one piece? I think, either way we go, my heart will be broken. Maybe we've made one decision over another due to the fact that in our human logic there is no way we will be able to afford to move the longer distance of the two. Dare I say, that is a lack of faith? Fear? Or maybe we have moved forward in one direction "jumping in with both feet" so that God is able to "move" in working out the other. Maybe, just maybe, we have been in His way in one area, and for this reason He needed us to focus on another. Or maybe I'm just analyzing way too much...but that's how I was made. I just want to be where God wants us and be settled and at peace with that. Yet, I believe that when we are moved in the continuously right direction I will experience that peace that passes all understanding and just know! So why am I still hesitant with the "place" we've set out to move to?
Well, possibly there is still more to collide with in God's timeless fashion. Indeed, "you never know what's coming around the corner."

Real Talk...Real Times
I was blessed to have a great "heart to heart", father/daughter talk with my girls today. We talked about how the environment you are in usually has a big influence on who you become.
It is true with children, teens and adults. From the music we listen to, to the clothes we wear, to the people we hang out with, to the car we drive and the money we spend, the environment we choose to participate in, "molds" us.
You notice I said "molds" us. It doesn't happen overnight, it takes time, in many cases, years. We usually don't even know it is happening!
Now this "molding" can be positive or negative. It depends on our environment, who and what we surround ourselves with. If we surround ourselves with Godly people who love to serve, give, praise and study the word of God then the molding that takes place resembles a "heavenly perspective".
If we choose an environment of the "worldly perspective" then we begin to love power, money, status, self and we look out for ourselves above all else. Before we know it our words have a "Godly Tone", but our actions don't reflect our words and our witness is "shot". By the way, that is just how the evil one likes it to be.
For many years, our family has lived a simple life. We don't want for anything, but we also don't have "extra". The towns we have lived in and the people we have chosen to invest with and in have been relatively modest. We have lived in some larger towns, Dallas TX, Surprise, AZ, Santa Maria, CA, but we have made a choice to live simply.
As the girls and I talked, mainly about styles of dress, makeup (or too much makeup), how a boy mind thinks, I am blessed and honored to be their dad. My girls are growing up, but they have a solid understanding of how God expects them to live.
If they live how God expects them to live...then why should I worry?
Because that's what Dad's do......

Hangin' with my girls...
I am blessed!
I get to spend the next week or so with my girls by myself while mom is in California. So I am worker, cook, laundry guy, principal...your regular "Mr. Mom".
What could be better than a week of Wii, playing catch, watching live bull riding and Karate Kid I, II & III. It's during times like these that I realize just how quickly my girls are growing up. Soon, they will be on their own, making their own decisions...living their own lives. Some of you have small children. You can't wait for the day when you can own "grown up" things again (like breakables in the house or decent furniture).
My advice to you? ENJOY your time! Don't let the hustle and bustle of life take time away from your family. We work to get ahead, save a little money, a little vacation time and before you know it...
Quality of life definitely wins over quantity of life. It's not how much you can fit into one day...but the quality of the life during that day. No one (except God) knows more about your kids than you. They have hopes and dreams and you know exactly what they are.
It may sound like I know what I'm talking about...it is easy to write down my thoughts. It is quite another thing to put it into practice.
I want to encourage you to take some extra time this week to "love on" your kids, tell your spouse how much they mean to you...
But most of all...tell God how much He means to you...and show it with your obedience and praise. If you make God the most important priority in your life, then He will show you how to prioritize everything else.
By the way...one thing I am finding out this week...Atari is not Wii!

Weed It Out, Clean It Out, Move It Out!
Before the excruciating pain appears in the right side of my face I better get out what is on my mind. Unfortunately, however, a kup of koffee, or the like, will not be able to accompany me for the next 24 hours. So without further ado, I'll get on with my thoughts!
Yesterday marks the first day of weeding out that which does not need to be a part of our household anymore. As this next move draws closer, as with all the previous moves, talk of "less-is-better-this-time-around" is at the forefront of our conversations lately. What started this endeavor is the ever-so-often dialogue that went like this:
"Where's my Nintendo chip?"
"I don't know, I gave it back to you."
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did! Why do I always get the blame?"
And the escalation of voices rise to more than a dialogue; it becomes a heated argument.
Now this is not just any Nintendo game chip; no, this chip holds over a thousand classic books that can be read similarly like a Kindle device. One of the books that is desired to be read for educational purposes is, of course, on this chip.
So after quite a few exhausting minutes of mom entering the scene of "discussion" of where the chip might be, I order everyone involved to start in the "borrowers" room; hence the mark of the first weeding-out day. Oh, how it needed it too! Two bags for garage sale, one bag of trash, and still another for give-away. Progress has started and that room still has a lot of weeding out to do.
Today held much of the same only it took place in a dentist office. Much like needing to resolve an argument, as it could only escalate into a painful experience if it is not taken care of, so it is with a decaying tooth that has been arguing with me during the past two sleepless nights. Get me out of here! says Mr. Dying Tooth; and as my loving husband sensed this Little Irritation that had invaded me, trading today's appointment with me seemed to him a must.
After 3 hours of waiting to be seated, shooting me with Lidocane, waiting some more for half my face to be paralyzed...I mean numbed, weeding out the decayed tooth...piece by piece, digging and more digging, pulling and more pulling on the stubborn molar roots, the dentist finally asking her assistant for a scalpel (and for any of you who do not know what that is, it is an instrument to cut into the skin) to be able to get down deeper to dig the roots out some more, cleaning out the wound, stitching me up and moving me out to anticipate tomorrow's pain, my dead tooth has finally met it's freedom and my once again restful nights will prayerfully begin soon...but not tonight or the next I presume and fully expect. (By the way, this procedure backed her office up a couple of hours...oops!)
Attention! School will be closed because the teacher will be in bed, drugged up with pain killers!
The moral of the story is: Don't wait till it's too late to resolve an issue! Weed it out! then, Clean it out! so you can Move it out!
Enjoying My ....Gauze... ok, maybe not ;o/

p.s. the discovery of the chip has still yet to be a success.

Prefacing the Previous Post...
Allow me to preface by saying that my two youngest daughters actually started an argument after dinner about who's doing.....or should I say wanting to do the dishes!
Ok...so there are still battles, even if it's fighting over who's getting to do the "job", and yes, I have a bit of work to do still; but hey, ya got to love the fact that their attitudes toward doing chores....I mean JOBS...are up there on that list of "Things A Parent Can Be Proud Of". Just saying!
There are a couple of points that I left out on my previous post regarding "Commission"; probably because the post was lengthy as it was. So I'd like to share them with you. As my daughters and I were walking around our neighborhood yesterday I brought up the idea of Allowance verses Commission and asked for their input, in which I received a "thumbs up" reply from all three. They in turn started blurting out all the chores-turned-jobs that could be possibilities. I explained how their daddy works and earns an income and then waits every two weeks to receive that check. I, also, explained to them that the money earned is and everything we have on this earth is from the Lord and when we receive an income we are to give a portion of that back to Him. The girls responded with a positive reply and knew exactly what I was talking about.
"Yes, we understand that it's a tenth of our earnings that we give."
Whew! I guess they learn quickly...and I am grateful for their cheerful hearts in this. So they will continue to be taught how to Tithe, how to Save, and how to Spend!
...and prayerfully in the process we (mom and dad) will continue to learn with them :)

What Took Me So Long?!
Allowances are a thing of the past in the Davis home.
You may be thinking Uh Oh! What happened? Naughty kids?
Quite the contrary!
I have great kids and I have clean floors too!!
Are we saving money? Well, probably not. But we are saving ourselves from headaches and unnecessary battles within the home.
It's called "Commission"...and it works!
As Steve is off on a work week this week I am here at home racking my brain on different issues that have come up. One of which falls in the allowance and chore category. What we have been doing is not working!
This idea of a commission is taken from well-known financial advisor, Dave Ramsey. Instead of giving our girls an allowance "for no good reason", explains my 13 year old, we give them a slot of time every day for a Job Opportunity of their choice...if they choose. They are constantly asking when they can get a job because they enjoy spending their own money. Now they are constantly asking when they can do a "Job" in our home. Why have I NOT thought of this before!!!
Now, mind you, the earnings for each job are, for the most part, in twenty five cent increments; and, by the way, the girls named the price! So it is definitely affordable. And it is definitely the girls who make the choice of how much they earn. I made "Commission Log" sheets for logging in every time they do a job and how much is owed to them, and by the end of the week they turn in the logs calculated (good math practice), mom and dad check them and make sure they have been added up correctly, and then pay them on Saturdays.
Note: Once the job has been completed Steve or I will check their work to make sure it has been completed by our standards and if it has not then a "training time"will occur. In essence, they get to do it over until they get it right...with a dose of grace, of course.
The girls want a real job, and we will teach them a bit about what it's like to have one! :)
You might be wondering Where does good ól free responsibility as a family member come in? And I have just the answer for you because I asked the same question myself.
Everyone in the house has a personal space (ie. bedroom and bathroom if they have their own). We have labeled this their Personal Space Responsibility in which takes priority over Job Opportunities. If their Personal Space has not been dealt with then the T.V. and computer privileges are off. In turn, there is a shared space which typically includes a family/living room, kitchen, dining, yard, and vehicle. These create a variety of opportunities to earn some pocket change. I also have bonus jobs...if they so desire to earn a little more.
In closing, I may not have saved a few dollars by not giving my daughters allowance (or maybe I have...we'll see), but I am in the process of teaching my beautiful pre/teenagers responsible habits and good financial choices for later in life (like a few years!). The benefits:
Less whining!
Less fighting!
More cheerfulness!
Better attitudes!

The Pow-Wow Of The Unexpected!
Their response was neither unexpected or uneventful.
Quite the contrary.
Quite the contrary.
This afternoon Steve and I gathered our girls for a pow-wow. We had some news to share.
"We are moving to California...to the big city."
"We are moving to California...to the big city."
And with that, our 13 year old daughter's face perked up and her body practically lept a foot off the chair she was sitting in. "The City, Really?" she exclaimed with a big smile. None too happy was she. No, she was ecstatic! She's our city girl who enjoys primping in semi high heels (mommy approval of course) and a fashionable outfit to go grocery shopping! And may I not forget her polished nails to add to the ensemble. Can you imagine this person in a small mountain town? :) I love her unique, fashionable personality!
Our nearly 16 year old daughter was just as excited. How do I know? Well, as she did not jump out of her chair like her sister, I saw her eyes and imagined her heart jumping out of it's shell. She's been long awaiting this day to arrive. You see, I believe her spiritual maturity has grown the most out of all of us through this past year. And so she was holding back to make sure that what she heard was in fact true. Last year's move was ...well....not agreeable to her. I am learning more about her and discovering her sense of discernment!
Our dear 11 year old, on the other hand, covered her face as tears made their way down her soft cheeks. She's at the age of living in the "here and now", a tender age that perceives life as she knows it right in front of her. Her mind had not inputted the realization, yet, that her cousins close in age were at the end of the "moving road". She could only see the friends that will be left behind. Her heart is at a tender stage that God can work with His gentle hands. BUT, may I add that SHE wanted to call one of her aunties to share the news. :) I'll take that!
Moving is not easy. It's adventurous and exciting! But not easy. I should know because this will be our 25+ (I've stopped counting!) move in the duration of our 18 years of marriage. No, we are not military. No, we are not missionaries (not technically anyway). We are Christ followers that, for the past 8 years, have genuinely sensed God calling us to where ever we have been. With the admission of Steve, and I agree, a couple of those "stops" were mistakes, but we believe God used them just the same for His glory and purpose. We have voiced in most every move that we "hope" to settle down, that this is our last stop...but in turn I find myself on the road again following a UHaul or Budget Truck (which ever is cheaper or available at the time) to the destination of choice. Choice meaning: we make the choice to follow God's leading.
In this present circumstance, Steve and I were confirmed today of a decision we made just recently of needing to move back to California so that we can continue with the job that God blessed us with a year and half ago. In this we are grateful!
Life is an adventure...a journey we must take. But it's the choice of who we take the journey with that makes all the difference. I choose God!
Enjoying My Kup...
